ROB $TONE

Rob $tone (b. Jaylen Robinson) is a multidimensional vocalist, producer and songwriter proudly hailing from San Diego's Lemon Grove region. While he didn't first get started creating music of his own until 2014, he found himself at a young age becoming enamored with the vibrant sounds of roots reggae, soulful R&B and old school hip-hop he discovered in his father's diverse record collection. Drawing from the prolific artists who not only soundtracked his adolescence growing up in California but helped inspire him to manifest the burgeoning career and melodic, genre-fluid approach he has today. With his artistry falling under the hip-hop umbrella, drawing a direct influence from Kid Cudi and Wiz Khalifa, Rob $tone holds an inventive focus on honest self-expression and precise, light-hearted wit, without taking away from his coveted knack for crafting a banger for the culture.

After a creative stint living and studying in Atlanta, Rob $tone returned to the West Coast with a newfound hunger to make music, going on to join the 1207 Collective and help represent for a community of hip-hop artists that have been historically unheard in the mainstream circuit. In 2014, the first song he ever recorded, "Chill Bill," began to gain traction leading up to its formal release on his debut mixtape, Straight Bummin' in 2015, a project that was later followed by his first EP, Landing, the same year. In 2016, "Chill Bill"—which was inspired by a run-in with the police and featured his 1207 collaborators J. Davis & Spooks over a Purp Dogg production—was re-released through RCA and climbed its way up the Billboard Hot 100, going on to peak at No. 29. The Kill Bill-inspired single, which has since been certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA, further ignited his passion to not only create music for himself but to put on for his city, even dedicating space on his neck for a tattoo of lemons and citrus blossoms to immortalize his love for where he's from and the artistic community he's happily a part of.

From taking the streaming game by storm to receiving cosigns from a slew of reputed artists, Rob $tone continued living up to his reputation as a bona fide rising talent, going on to release his 2016 sophomore mixtape, I'm Almost Ready, while his viral single received the remix treatment from the likes of D.R.A.M., Denzel Curry and Cousin Stizz. Amid the chaos that comes with being an emerging artist, Rob $tone became celebrated for his emotive, lively performances, lending his talents on the road as a supporting act alongside Playboi Carti & A$AP Ferg in 2016 and Desiigner & Ski Mask in 2017. To close out 2017, $tone released his highly anticipated album, Don’t Wait For It. The album included features from Gucci Mane, Meechy Darko, J.Davi$, and more. As well as production from Zaytoven, ID LABS, Ricci Riera, and many more. In 2018, $tone hit the road embarking on his first official headlining tour. $tone then released his self titled mixtape, Young Rob $tone. To kick off 2020, Rob $tone released his sophomore album, $tone Cold, on January 31. Stone Cold was followed up with a deluxe version which included three brand new records as well as a remix of Rob’s hit with P-Lo, “Too Faded.” The remix contained a guest verse from a west coast legend and maybe the most famous rapper on the planet, Snoop Dogg. Rob $tone continuously released hard-hitting singles throughout the year and began 2021 with the release of a new E.P. entitled, Solitaire $tone, along with a handful of party ready anthems to solidify his status as a Bona Fide hit-maker. Those singles included features from West Coast legends Too $hort on “Gossip” and Dom Kennedy on “No Handshakes.” Rob $tone also tagged in the beautiful Rubi Rose for a summer smash they titled, “I Love It.” Rob $tone took a step back only releasing a handful of singles as he geared up to release his 3rd studio album, “BONA FIDE.” The album is paired with a short film documentary giving fans an inside look to Rob’s personal life and career. Now a few years wiser, Rob $tone has really found his footing on every track and glides down every beat with a flawless cadence and hedonistic lyrical approach.

As an artist full of youthful energy, Rob $tones' authenticity is exuberant, rugged and hearty, with these qualities reflective in the music itself, expertly allowing his experiences to resonate with an ever-expanding audience that is evolving in tandem alongside him. The self-described film enthusiast's ability to know—and stay true to—his own voice, talents and perspectives is not only part of his charm as a creative, performer and bona fide visionary, it's essential to his mission to push the culture forward, both in his hometown and on a national scale.

Rob $tone is constantly innovating and creating new art to share with the world. When he is not hard at work setting the best example for his five year old son, Jesiah, or making his family proud, Rob $tone can be found embarking on spontaneous adventures, indulging in the cartoons from his childhood, writing short stories, re-watching Tarantino films, cheering on his favorite sports teams, playing video games and plotting his future as a director, filmmaker and, of course, a world-renowned musician.
